It all started in 2000 shortly after the Internet boom when merchants came together to talk about online fraud problems never experienced before. The Merchant Risk Council began as a passion project built by a team of dedicated volunteers, all working day jobs and creating the MRC on nights and weekends.

As the eCommerce market continued to evolve, so did fraud. More and more merchants turned to the MRC for ways to learn, share information, and network with other professionals. As we grew, we welcomed solution providers, issuers, law enforcement, card brands, and ancillary companies to work together in the fight against fraud.

As a nonprofit 501(c)6 organization, the MRC encompasses a membership network of over 700 companies including 400+ merchants all focused on fraud prevention, payments optimization, and risk management. We operate in the US and Europe and are expanding our presence to other regions.
