Credit Limitations
- Behavioral/Personal Development Courses: Limited to twelve (12) hours.
- Nano Learning: Limited to 25% of the total hours.
- Published Materials: Limited to 50% of total hours. Credit for authoring published materials is determined by the Board.
Credit Calculation
- Instruction: Credit is equal to two times (2x) presentation. No credit for preparation of a program.
- Group programs and blended learning programs must be a minimum of one (1) hour, but credit may be earned in one-fifth or one-half hour increments after the first full hour is earned.
- Self study programs must be a minimum of one-half credit initially, but credit may be earned in one-fifth or one-half hour increments after the first full hour is earned.
- Nano learning is earned at one-fifth credit hour.
- Partial Credit: Half credits are accepted after first hour.
- University/College: One (1) semester hour equals 15 CPE hours; One (1) quarter hour equals ten (10) CPE hours; For non-credit courses, each classroom hour will equal one (1) qualifying hour.
Other State Policies
- Exemption: A licensee seeking renewal of an annual permit in this state shall be deemed to have met the CPE requirements of this state by meeting the CPE requirements for renewal of a certificate in the state in which the licensee's principal place of business is located. If a licensee's principal place of business has no CPE requirements for renewal of a certificate, the licensee must comply with all the CPE requirements for renewal of an annual permit in this state.
- Alabama accepts CPE credits for programs offered by National Registry sponsors.
