Review and Evaluation of the CPE Standards

Apr 01, 2022

Two african american professional women discussing StandardsThe Statement on Standards for Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Programs (Standards) and the Fields of Study document were last updated with an effective date of December 31, 2019.

Among the most significant changes reflected in the 2019 Standards were to allow for adaptive learning self study programs and to permit the use of review questions or other content reinforcement tools in a nano learning program. Additional clarifications, definitions and examples were also included to assist in the application of the 2019 Standards. The changes reflected in the 2019 Fields of Study document focused on providing descriptions that are more current and relevant.

In May 2022, the CPE Standards Working Group will begin the review and evaluation of the Standards. In addition to reviewing the Standards and Fields of Study document in their entirety, the Working Group will consider innovations, trends and techniques in CPE and adult learning as well as ideas and suggestions related to clarification and modifications of the 2019 Standards

The Standards are intended to be an “evergreen” document, so questions, comments and viewpoints regarding the Standards are important to the Working Group. Have ideas and suggestions? Submit them using this survey link.
