In September 2022, NASBA’s National Registry Summit featured guest speaker Michael Kravshik, CPA, and founder and CEO of LumiQ. Kravshik began his talk with Summit attendees by sharing, “Accounting is changing, there is no doubt about that. But I think it is changing for the better. If we are going to be able to transition, as the profession is transitioning, we need to broaden the scope of our knowledge and skillset. We don’t necessarily need to change or lose what we are as CPAs, we need to hone in on our core strengths and apply those strengths to new challenges.” 

Kravshik surveyed thousands of accountants and found that 94% view CPE purely as compliance. Yet, when asked if they wanted to learn and upskill, each one said yes. These two things should not be mutually exclusive. Understanding this, Kravshik created LumiQ. 

LumiQ, an approved CPE provider on NASBA’s National Registry of CPE Sponsors, is a podcasting platform where accountants can get their CPE credits through high-learning content. Each episode is created by and for accountants. Kravshik believes CPE should be engaging, entertaining and enjoyable, which led to LumiQ’s mission: Make professional education enjoyable. How do you do this? Focus on the content as well as the experience consuming it.   

How would Kravshik describe LumiQ in just one word? Edutainment. This encourages participants to want to do the work, pay attention and most importantly, remember what they learned.
