Myra Roldan and The AI Frontier: From Uncertainty to Opportunity
Oct 23, 2024Day two of the 2024 National Registry Summit in Nashville, TN, featured Keynote Speaker Myra Roldan. Roldan covered The AI Frontier: From Uncertainty to Opportunity and enlightened attendees on the ways artificial intelligence (AI) can improve workflows and the responsibility that comes with it.
Roldan began her presentation by emphasizing responsible innovation and learning balance with integrating AI into daily processes. Viewing AI as a colleague and not a threat is an imperative perspective shift many professionals will need to make to keep their businesses and careers moving forward. She then introduced the different types of AI and how they could provide support with a variety of daily tasks.
After demonstrating how to delegate items, Roldan explained how to get the best output from AI by providing proper input by using the R.I.C.E. (role, instruction, confidence, effort) method. When interacting with AI, the user needs to provide a prompt that outlines what they are looking to create. This tells the tool what they want to achieve. Preparing a prompt for AI using the R.I.C.E. method helps ensure that the output will be closest to what the user is hoping to accomplish.
Roldan then explained the importance of using AI ethically and how to avoid legal issues by making smart tool choices. Users may face ethical challenges such as bias in outputs, data privacy and lack of transparency with tools. Services like ChatGPT also suffer from what Roldan described as ‘hallucination,’ which happens when AI does not have an answer or knowledge on what it is being asked, so it creates a response that may not be true. Roldan provided a set of AI tool evaluation criteria so that users can make informed choices when selecting a service.
Ultimately, Roldan encouraged attendees to try adapting their workflows to integrate AI while maintaining an ethical balance with what tools they choose to utilize and what tasks they decide to hand over.
