The 2023 National Registry Summit was recently held in Clearwater Beach, FL, September 19-20. Following the theme, Currents, Trends and a Slash of Inspiration, the conference was full of great speakers, interactive networking and conversations on the current trends and developments impacting the Statement on Standards for Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Programs (Standards), the CPE Fields of Study curriculum and innovative learning methods used to facilitate various courses for certified public accountants. Participants also heard first-hand how artificial intelligence (AI) is evolving learning, and more! 

Day one hosted keynote speaker Heloisa Vila, Learning Effectiveness & Product Manager, Brain Aware Training. She discussed The Neuroscience of Learning and how research on it continues to evolve and change the landscape of how we approach learning. She considered learning modules based on how to stimulate types of memory effectively both with technology and without. 

Rita Sehgal and Nick Jones spoke about AI in their AI-mazing Adventures in Learning: Unlocking the Magic of Artificial Intelligence session. Sehgal and Jones guided attendees through the AI-powered conversational skills simulation course EY ConvoCoach TM, patented by EY. The course qualifies for CPE credit and utilizes AI as a built-in coach for training and learning modules. This approach to learning leverages generative AI technology with scalable verbal practice to drive skill growth in learners. 

Additional topics discussed at the conference included how to elevate hybrid meetings, AI’s impact on the CPA profession, using AI for the creation of polling questions, and updates on revisions to the CPE Standards.  

Attendees also had the opportunity to participate in breakout sessions to discuss similar questions, challenges and interests with sponsors and peers. Each session focused on different key topic areas so attendees could select which was most meaningful to their role as a CPE provider.
